Maccabeats Purim video may have trouble going viral

Filed in holidays , Israel , Jewish , Music , viral video 10 comments

The Maccabeats have taken a risk with their latest video, an eponymous parody of Pink’s “Raise Your Glass.” Hypersemitic viral video wisdom says to wait until Pesach. But in addition to Purim being slightly less familiar to broader audiences, The Maccabeats now find themselves in direct “competition”–if you can call it that–with another Purim parody of Pink! That’s right, the Ein Prat Fountainheads–who previously clocked in with a post-Maccabeats Hanukkah video–came up with this gem below. Zoinks!

What do you think of The Maccabeats’ latest entry? Does the similarity between these two videos mean a lower dose of virality? Scroll down to comment!

I like them both but the Maccabeats seem more family friendly where as the Fountainheads seem to appeal to the party crowd more… thanks Maccabeats for staying wholesome ~GOD BLESS~

Both are great, but the Ein Prat video is really full of life!

The fact is that Ein Prat posted first on the 27/2/2011….
So basically, Maccabeats are a rip off…

It’s fantastic that we have two new, exciting Purim songs to enjoy this year. But I have a problem with the Ein Prat video.

It looks like they put a lot of work into that video- the scenery is second to none and the choreography is wonderful. Really, a great effort. It’s just a shame that the music itself is not very pleasant. The music felt thin at times, there was just no bottom to it. The lead vocals drown out the other voices. And frankly the singers feel out of sync throughout the song. It was simply difficult for me to listen to from start to finish. This became a distraction to the action in the video. An exciting video should enhance a song, not make up for it. And as a pet peeve, the date for Haman’s attack on the Jews is wrong in the video. Bugs me. Sorry.

The Maccabeats musically are tight. The sound is well balanced and a pleasure to listen to. It’s nice to see them feature some of the other fellows this time around, and that they too have the chops to sing lead. The video is fun. So it’s not as ambitious as the Ein Prat video. Its hard to compete with choreographed dancers and Eretz Yisrael as a backdrop. Kids are always a crowd pleaser and it was nice to see the video feature them. Between “One Day”, “Candlelight” and now “Purim Song” a pattern is emerging- the music and the storytelling are both great and could stand equally well on their own. But together they work to elevate the work.

    Maccabeats FTW

Yeah, I’m sure the fellows saw the Ein Prat video and said, “Hey, lets record a knock off video.” Then they planned the concept, wrote lyrics, rehearsed, filmed, recorded audio, did all the post production work and released the video in a week.

The Fountainheads video takes the prize. It is very creative, and the lyrics are witty and well-formed.

Considering the Maccabeats have over 200,000 views in less then two days while the Fountainheads have been out for a week and barely come close to that there is clearly no competition….

The Maccabeeats are more talented vocally at least comparing the two parody videos you post here.  hands down, maccabeats.
